For this West Auckland bathroom renovation, our clients wanted a modern, welcoming space that felt larger and more open, while still keeping a full-sized bath, practical vanity area, and comfortable shower.

The existing layout felt cramped and closed in. The brief was simple: create a bathroom that worked better for everyday life without compromising on style.

Smart Design Choices That Opened Up the Space.

Rather than removing key features, we focused on selecting products that maximised usable space while maintaining comfort and practicality.

 

Tivoli Inslide Shower in Gunmetal

One of our favourite recommendations on this project was the Tivoli Inslide Shower (900 x 900mm) in Gunmetal. Unlike traditional shower doors that require clearance to swing outward, the innovative door slides inward into the shower enclosure. This clever design helped free up valuable floor space and improve movement throughout the room without reducing shower size. For smaller bathrooms, it's the sort of detail that can make a surprisingly big difference.

Caroma Back-to-Wall Bath

Our clients wanted to retain a bathtub for family use, but space was at a premium. We recommended a Caroma back-to-wall bath, which not only saves valuable bathroom space but eliminates the hard to clean gap behind the bath and reduces areas where moisture and grime can accumulate. A smart choice for growing families and it's one of those products that looks great on installation day and continues to make life easier long after the renovation is complete.

The standout feature is the stunning terracotta concrete basin, bringing warmth, texture, and personality into the space. While it certainly makes a statement, it's also a practical choice that can handle everyday family use and cleaning requirements. The result is a bathroom that feels unique without feeling over designed.

Thinking Beyond Standard: A Kitchen Mixer in the Bathroom

One of the more unique features of this renovation is the Mizu gooseneck mixer positioned above the basin. Traditionally designed as a kitchen mixer, this tap was selected after discussing how the clients would use the space on a daily basis. The benefits included greater reach around the basin which enables easier cleaning and increased flexibility for everyday use. The design also offers a striking architectural look that complements the room. Sometimes the best plumbing solutions come from thinking beyond convention and selecting products based on functionality rather than simply following what's always been done.

Upgrading From Low Pressure to Mains Pressure Hot Water

Behind every great bathroom renovation is the plumbing infrastructure that makes it all work. As part of this project, we upgraded the property's hot water system from low pressure to mains pressure to support the new fixtures and deliver a significantly improved user experience. Once identified, we were able to organise and complete the upgrade without delaying the renovation timeline, ensuring the project remained on track while providing the performance needed for the new bathroom. The result is stronger, more consistent pressure throughout the space and a noticeable improvement in everyday comfort.
